Yang’s Strategy Blog

Rui Yang Strategy Ray Yang Strategy

Welcome to my blog! I am a Ph.D. candidate in Strategic Management (C.V.) at the University of California, Riverside.

My research concerns (1) firm agentic capabilities to impact and react to the market environments, and relatedly, (2) the interplay between environment-shaping strategies and performance-shaping environment. For example, I examine how mergers and acquisitions (M&As) transform firm industry positioning and inter-firm resource connections. I am also particularly interested in studying networked innovation ecosystems and the alpha drivers of firm market value (viz. above-normal stock returns).

As a management theorist and a data science hobbyist, I realize: (1) human brains are built to produce and consume theories, (2) data allow humans to see further and theorize deeper, and (3) humans can achieve more by knowing how to empower and delegate machines. As we envision and observe how things connect, our minds naturally turn to what makes them tick, producing knowledge in an accelerating loop of causal inference and probabilistic prediction.
